About Matthew McQueeny

I work at the intersection of relationships, storytelling, technology, and growth.

Today, I am building Earnfluencing, my independent consultancy focused on helping organizations and leaders turn their expertise, experiences, and relationships into visibility, trust, influence, and business opportunity.

Earnfluencing brings together earned media, thought leadership, influencer strategy, community building, and owned content. It is based on a simple premise: the most valuable attention is not purchased. It is earned through credibility, generosity, consistency, and genuine human relationships.

This is not about becoming internet famous or chasing vanity metrics. It is about becoming useful, visible, and trusted within the communities that matter to you.

Through Earnfluencing, I work with companies, executives, founders, and subject-matter experts to uncover the stories only they can tell—and then turn those stories into content and experiences that create lasting value.

That work can include positioning and messaging, executive visibility, relationship-led growth, podcasts and video, thought leadership, event strategy, community development, strategic partnerships, and AI-enabled content systems.

An Earnfluencer thinks like a beat writer. You immerse yourself in an industry, develop relationships with its people, understand the conversations shaping it, and consistently bring useful ideas to the surface. You build platforms instead of waiting to be invited onto them. You turn meetings, interviews, travel, events, and everyday experiences into content that informs people and creates opportunity.

I call that process contentizing.

At a moment when AI can produce more content than people could ever consume, Earnfluencing focuses on the things technology cannot manufacture: lived experience, earned trust, a distinctive point of view, and meaningful relationships.

AI is still central to the work. It gives individuals and smaller teams extraordinary capabilities for research, analysis, production, personalization, and distribution. I am especially interested in generative and agentic AI, Answer Engine Optimization, Generative Engine Optimization, and the changing ways people discover information, evaluate expertise, and make decisions.

Technology can accelerate the work. Human judgment, creativity, curiosity, and credibility are what make the work matter.

My ongoing media projects serve as a working laboratory for these ideas.

Since 2013, I have hosted the Mix-Minus Podcast, a long-form show built around conversations about technology, entrepreneurship, media, sports, careers, and the unexpected turns that shape people’s lives. Across Mix-Minus and other programs, I have hosted and produced more than 500 podcast episodes.

I also co-host the Matt & Matt Show with Matt Garrepy of CMS Critic. Every other week, we explore the evolving CMS and digital experience industry, including AI, emerging technologies, agency transformation, community, and the people driving change across the technology ecosystem.

I write for CMS Critic and McQueeny Media, interview founders and industry leaders, and create video, audio, written, and social content from conferences and conversations around the world. Through my “Behind the Madness” interviews, I bring a postgame-style perspective to the annual CMS and DXP March Madness competition, speaking directly with the leaders behind the platforms and communities shaping the industry.

I am also the North American peer group leader for Boye & Company, where I help bring digital leaders together for candid, experience-driven conversations. I regularly speak at conferences and industry events about Earnfluencing, relationship-led growth, AI, content strategy, digital experience, and why human connection becomes more—not less—important as technology advances.

All of this traces back to the beginning of my career.

In 2004, I became the New Jersey Nets fan blogger for NJ.com, the online home of the Newark Star-Ledger. At 24, I joined the Nets as their in-house beat writer and digital content producer, eventually traveling with the team and covering it from the inside.

That experience taught me lessons I still carry today: get close to the story, earn people’s trust, ask thoughtful questions, pay attention to what others overlook, and create something valuable from the access you have been given.

I later spent more than a decade leading digital projects, marketing programs, growth initiatives, and client relationships for organizations ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies. My career has included work across sales, business development, digital strategy, content management, agency leadership, entrepreneurship, podcasting, and community building.

Earnfluencing is the culmination of those experiences—and the next chapter of that work.

I earned an MBA from Rutgers Business School and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from New York University. I am also a Project Management Professional, Certified ScrumMaster, and 4-time Sitecore MVP.

I live in Sparta, New Jersey, with my wife, Melany, and our two sons. Outside of work, you will frequently find me coaching youth sports, following the Nets and Mets, watching movies, reading something unnecessarily long, or finding a reason to start another conversation.

I’m not trying to be everywhere. I’m trying to be useful in the places where my experience, curiosity, and relationships can make a difference.

That is what Earnfluencing means to me.
